I'm trying to activate x-plane on a new built computer and it tells me I need at least 2mg of VRAM. I have a graphics card and the properties lists 4 kinds of memory and VRAM is 0. Do I need a video card in addition to the graphics card? Is there something external I can just plug in somewhere?

Video Card and Graphics Card are the same thing. x-plane just may very well be too old to be playable on modern hardware. What are your hardware specs?

I suggest installing a dedicated graphics card with at least 2GB of VRAM, then inserting the graphics card into the PCIe x16 slot and tighten the screws. Download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card from the manufacturer's website, and finally launch X-Plane.

It sounds like you might just need to update your graphics drivers. I had a similar issue when setting up my own rig; the VRAM showed as 0 until I installed the latest drivers for my card. If updating doesn’t fix it, double-check that the card is properly seated in the slot. You shouldn’t need anything extra if your card already has VRAM listed.

your computer is recognizing the wrong amount of VRAM, which is critical for running X-Plane smoothly. VRAM (Video RAM) is the dedicated memory on your graphics card used for rendering high-quality visuals, and X-Plane requires a minimum of 2 GB of VRAM.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with your graphics card's VRAM (Video RAM) when trying to run X-Plane. Let's clarify a few things:

1. Graphics Card vs. Video Card: These terms are often used interchangeably. Both refer to the hardware that includes the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and VRAM. If your system lists VRAM as 0, it might be an issue with how the system is recognizing your graphics card.

2. VRAM Requirements: X-Plane requires at least 2 GB of VRAM to run properly.

1. External Solutions: If your current graphics card isn't meeting the VRAM requirements, you can consider using an external GPU (eGPU). These are enclosures that house a desktop-grade graphics card and connect to your computer via Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C. Some popular options include the Razer Core X and the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Boxhttps://www.tutorialspoint.com/difference-between-graphics-card-and-video-card.

2. Checking and Updating Drivers: Ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date. Sometimes, updating or reinstalling drivers can resolve recognition issues.

3. BIOS Settings: You might also want to check your BIOS settings to ensure that the VRAM allocation is set correctly. Some systems allow you to adjust the VRAM allocation in the BIOS.
