1xRTX 2080 Super vs 2xRTX 2070 Super for GPU Rendering ?

Hey Guys!

I’ll build a PC with an i9-10900k for 3d modeling, rendering and animation purposes. I decided to go with the 10900k for active work, since I’m thinking to rely on GPU on the rendering side. Will be using mostly V-ray Next, Keyshot, Cycles and Eeve.

So here’s my question(as obvious in the title ), which do you think serve me better, a 1xRTX 2080 Super or a 2xRTX 2070 Super setup for GPU rendering? Or maybe 1xRTX 2080 Ti instead? What’s the optimal, or as you guys say ‘the sweet spot’ here?

Prices for the GPUs in my country:
2070 Super : $850
2080 Super : $1150
2080 Ti : $1600

Any advice will be appreciated, thanks for all the ideas

The sweep spot is more along the lines of a RTX 3070 or 3080 currently, with the only caveat that those GPUs are quite hard to come by currently. The 3070 is around 500$ and has 2080Ti level performance, so the value is a lot better.

If you can't get your hands on a RTX30xx GPU at all (not sure how the release cycle is in your country) then a single 2080ti would probably be the best config in this situation, as it has 11gb of VRAM and is about as fast as 2x 2070 super in CUDA rendering workloads, give or take.

It is really sad that so many people can’t access rtx 30 series nowadays. I’m one of them-which is more sad - and I don’t want to wait for a couple of months, since I need a Pc asap. Maybe the next upgrade

I thought it would be faster to render if I can divide the workload between 2 GPUs, do you think 3 Gb more VRAM on 2080 Ti is better than on 2 2070 Super?

Depends on the complexity of your scenes. If they are small and easily fit into each cards' VRAM, then 2x 2070 super will perform better. I often see the 2080Ti perform the same as 2x 2070 super though, in complex scenes where more vram will perform better.
